Renowned professor from Department of Pharmacy, Tajen University, Pingtung, Taiwan : Prof. Dr. Govindasamy Agoramoorthy visited Team Varuna headquarters (Gangotri II, Ravindrapuri Extension, Varanasi) on August 29, 2008. A traditional warm welcome was put forward by Mr. Prabhat Shankar Pandey (Managing Director – Team Varuna ) for Dr. Agoramoorthy.

A stream of discussions and plans followed. Dr. Agoramoorthy suggested for English translation of the book “Bhavaprakasa Nighantu” (Indian Materia Medica) authored by Late Dr. Ganga Sahai Pandey. In his words, “This is an ayurvedic treasure – the world should gain from it!”.

Later during the day, Dr. Agoramoorthy visited the manufacturing unit of Team Varuna (Dulhipur, Varanasi). He was impressed by our GMP and ISO compliance for herbal extraction. Dr. Agoramoorthy strolled round the unit and keenly observed in-house plantation of various herbs in the campus.

Taking the discussions further Dr. Agoramoorthy extended his gracious hand for an Indo-Taiwan study for studies and conservation of Herbal medicinal plants. While announcing the collaboration Dr. Agoramoorthy remarked, “Together I believe, we can help protect the traditional knowledge of Ayurveda and conserve medicinal herbal plants lest known to current practitioners. This collaboration will go a long way in re-establishing ayurvedic connections between India and Taiwan.”

Creating a Gene Bank was emphasized as well to conserve herbal medicinal plants along with herbal plantations to be carried out in the Gangetic plain. Dr. Agoramoorthy advocated for sustainable development programme for resident farmers in and around Varanasi. He suggested contract farming of Herbal plantations for their economic upliftment.

Time flew past as Dr. Agoramoorthy suggested improvements in both R&D and marketing. Whole Team Varuna was spellbound to his oratorship and wished this never ends. At last, the conclusion took shape of a mini celebration and everyone had the drink of Thandai (in-house manufactured traditional drink)
